Hello and welcome to Hawk class.  My name is Miss Jones and I will be working alongside Mrs Macara to help support you with your learning. We are both looking forward to the new challenges and learning opportunities that Year 6 will bring. It is a year where you will be given greater responsibility and we cannot wait to see what you can achieve.

In Hawk class, you are always encouraged to become the very best version of you.

You will take responsibility for your learning but we will be there to guide whenever you need a helping hand.  In every lesson, you will be expected to do the best you possibly can whilst always remembering the most important thing of all is to have a smile on your face.

Throughout the year, we will learn about many exciting things in different areas of the curriculum. Year 6 will begin by learning about natural disasters and different rhythmic patterns, before we move on to study Ancient Islamic civilisations and make our own stockings. During this term, you will also have the opportunity to take on more responsibility in school by applying for a job, which you will undertake throughout the year, where you will write your own job application. In the spring term, we will make our own pieces of propaganda to portray an important message, learn about World War 2 and progress our learning on light and electricity. During the final term, we will carry out geography fieldwork at Highdown Hill and experiment with 3D artwork electronically and physically, whilst also rehearsing for our show stopping end of year production.

We look forward to sharing our learning and experiences with you! We are sure you’ve made incredible memories at Goring already but, in Year 6, we will make sure there are even more added!

Geography

Choose a country in the world to research.

Can you describe where it is located? What natural resources does it have? What are the main imports and exports in the country? Can you find out about the different biomes that it has? Think about the weather, temperature, vegetation, wildlife and landscape.

History

Research what it would have been like to be a child during World War 2. What do you think it would have been like to be evacuated? How do you think children felt when the Blitz was taking place?

You might like to create your own gas mask box or evacuation passport.
